Walmart Neighborhood Market Officially Opens in Surf City

Offering 24-Hour Grocery Convenience

A new Walmart Neighborhood Market has officially opened its doors in Surf City after a grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The store introduces a new 24-hour grocery option for both residents and visitors, expanding the retail landscape of this fast-growing coastal community.

Located at 420 Fun Center Drive, the Surf City Walmart Neighborhood Market is significantly smaller than a typical Walmart Supercenter—about one-quarter the size—yet still offers a full range of essential services. This format is designed to provide a more focused, convenient shopping experience for customers seeking groceries, fresh produce, pantry staples, health and beauty products, and full pharmacy services.

The store will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, making it one of the most accessible grocery options in the Topsail Island region.

A Boost to Surf City's Growing Commercial District

Town officials welcomed the new Walmart as a significant addition to Surf City’s expanding commercial base. Mayor A.D. “Zander” Guy praised the opening as a major economic milestone for the community.

“The Town of Surf City is excited about the opening of Walmart as its newest business,” Guy said. “This store will bring jobs to the community, add to the commercial tax base, and signals to other companies and investors that Surf City is a growing, thriving center of commerce in our local region.”

The new store is expected to play a key role in accommodating the area’s rapid population growth and increasing demand for convenient shopping options.

New Jobs and Employment Opportunities

The Surf City Walmart Neighborhood Market employs up to 95 full- and part-time associates, offering a mix of customer service, stocking, and pharmacy positions. The store’s opening provides new employment opportunities for local residents and supports the continued economic development of the greater Topsail area.

A Convenient Addition for Residents and Visitors

For locals in Surf City, Holly Ridge, Hampstead, Sneads Ferry, and Topsail Island, the new Walmart Neighborhood Market offers a much-needed alternative to larger grocery stores located farther inland. Its around-the-clock availability is expected to benefit both year-round residents and the surge of seasonal visitors who arrive during peak vacation months.

Whether customers need late-night essentials, prescription refills, or quick grocery trips on the way to the beach, the new Surf City Walmart aims to provide fast, streamlined service close to home.
