Tractor Supply Co. to Bring New Retail Option to Surf City with 22,000-Square-Foot Store Opening

Surf City is preparing to welcome another major retailer as Tractor Supply Co. moves forward with plans for a new store along the U.S. 17 corridor. The project marks another significant commercial addition to Pender County’s rapidly growing coastal community.

Earlier this year, Surf City Development Group LLC purchased a little more than 3 acres at 22761 U.S. 17 for $530,000. Site preparation has already begun for what will become a 22,000-square-foot Tractor Supply Co. store, expected to be completed by July.

The developer behind the project, David Long of Surf City Development Group, confirmed that construction is on schedule and the company is targeting a mid- to late-August opening date.

A Preferred Developer with Regional Experience

Surf City Development Group is an affiliate of Baseline Development LLC, a company headquartered in Southern Pines. Long’s firm has developed several Tractor Supply locations throughout the region, including stores in Shallotte and Rocky Point.

“Given our experience with Tractor Supply and the strong demand in Surf City, we anticipate a smooth construction process and a successful opening,” Long said.

The expansion reflects the retailer’s continued growth across North Carolina, especially in high-demand coastal and rural markets where population increases have driven significant commercial development.

Real estate professionals Glenn Imboden and Allan Fox of Coldwell Banker Commercial Sun Coast Partners represented sellers J.E. and Linda Register in the Surf City land transaction.

Part of a Larger Regional Expansion

Tractor Supply has been gradually expanding its footprint throughout southeastern North Carolina. Last year, officials in Leland announced that a 19,000-square-foot location was planned for the rapidly growing northern Brunswick County community.

As of December, the company operated 1,923 stores in 49 states, along with a robust e-commerce platform that has seen dramatic growth in recent years.

What Tractor Supply Will Bring to Surf City

Tractor Supply Co. is known nationally as a go-to retailer for rural and semi-rural communities, offering products that support home improvement, agriculture, and outdoor lifestyles. The Surf City store is expected to carry the company’s full range of inventory, including:

  • Livestock and animal care supplies

  • Pet food and grooming items

  • Lawn and garden materials

  • Hardware and home maintenance tools

  • Outdoor power equipment

  • Seasonal and farm equipment

  • Workwear, boots, and apparel

  • Household and homesteading essentials

The company emphasizes localized product selection, tailoring inventory to the needs of the surrounding community—including coastal residents, hobby farmers, homeowners, and pet owners.

In addition, Tractor Supply continues to highlight employee support initiatives, including a $50 incentive offered to staff members who receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

A Strong Addition to Surf City’s Growing Commercial Corridor

Surf City has experienced notable commercial growth in recent years, with national retailers, hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, and specialty shops opening across the town. The addition of Tractor Supply Co. strengthens the U.S. 17 business corridor and provides expanded shopping options for residents of Surf City, Holly Ridge, Hampstead, and surrounding communities.

Given the area’s blend of suburban neighborhoods, rural properties, and coastal developments, the new store is well-positioned to serve both longtime locals and new families moving into the rapidly expanding region.

With construction underway and an anticipated summer opening, Tractor Supply Co. is set to become a major new retail anchor in Surf City’s evolving commercial landscape.
