Saltwater Resort Opens on Topsail Island:

A New Luxury Destination in Surf City

Saltwater Resort, a newly developed luxury hotel and event center, has officially opened on Topsail Island, adding a high-end lodging option just steps from the public beach accesses and the heart of Surf City. Designed to showcase the area’s natural beauty while offering upscale comfort, the arrival of Saltwater Resort marks a significant addition to the island’s hospitality landscape.

Located within walking distance of downtown Surf City shops, restaurants, and beachfront areas, the resort emphasizes a blend of modern coastal design and convenience. Its interiors draw inspiration from Wilmington’s evolving contemporary coastal style, giving guests an elevated experience while maintaining the laid-back spirit Topsail Island is known for.

Condo-Style Luxury Suites Built for Short or Extended Stays

Saltwater Resort features 48 spacious, condo-style suites, each approximately 700 square feet. Every suite is designed to accommodate both short-term vacationers and extended-stay guests seeking more residential comfort.

Each unit includes:

  • A full kitchen

  • In-room washer and dryer

  • Separate living and sleeping areas

  • Private bedroom layout

  • Modern coastal decor

  • Space suitable for couples, families, or business travelers

These suites offer flexibility rarely found in traditional hotels, positioning Saltwater Resort as a premium lodging option for longer stays, wedding parties, and corporate groups.

Waterfront Event Center With Indoor and Outdoor Space

One of the most notable features of the property is its two-story event center, which overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. Designed for weddings, corporate retreats, reunions, and private celebrations, the venue provides both indoor comfort and expansive outdoor views.

The event center includes:

  • 900 square feet of indoor gathering space

  • 900 square feet of covered outdoor deck space

  • Scenic views of the Intracoastal Waterway

  • Flexible setups for events of various sizes

This addition fills a long-standing need for more upscale event venues on Topsail Island, especially those offering waterfront scenery.

Resort Amenities Built for Coastal Comfort

Saltwater Resort offers a variety of modern amenities tailored to vacationers seeking relaxation and convenience.

Available on-site amenities include:

  • Saltwater swimming pool

  • Outdoor showers

  • Open-air common areas

  • Beach cruiser bicycles for guest use

  • Tent rentals for events

  • Pet-friendly accommodations

These features allow guests to enjoy the best of Topsail Island without sacrificing comfort or modern conveniences.

A Developer with Deep Local Ties

Saltwater Resort is the latest project by developer Richard Stroupe, a North Carolina native who has spent years contributing to the revitalization and enhancement of Topsail Island’s lodging options. The resort’s opening was celebrated on October 25 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local leaders, business owners, and community members.

Stroupe expressed pride and optimism for the resort’s impact on the area, stating:

“We are excited to be welcoming families and guests to Topsail Island and the beautiful North Carolina coast. This project is a vote of confidence in Topsail Island’s future — and is already delivering a powerful boost to our local economy.”

A Vision That Began with the Historic Loggerhead Inn

Saltwater Resort expands upon Stroupe’s earlier work restoring the historic Loggerhead Inn, a beloved Surf City property dating back more than 60 years. That restoration, completed in 2017, revived one of the island’s most iconic lodging establishments and demonstrated a growing demand for elevated hospitality options.

The success of the Loggerhead Inn renovation inspired Stroupe to pursue larger, more ambitious projects aimed at enhancing Topsail Island’s appeal to both visitors and locals.

“We have been welcomed into the community with open arms,” Stroupe shared. “Topsail Island is an incredible place with an even brighter future ahead. We are thrilled to be part of it.”

What Saltwater Resort Means for Topsail Island

The opening of Saltwater Resort represents more than just new lodging; it signals continued growth in tourism, event hosting, and travel visibility for Topsail Island. With upscale accommodations, modern amenities, and a much-needed event space, the resort strengthens Surf City’s position as an increasingly vibrant coastal destination.

Its combination of extended-stay suites, event capabilities, and walkable convenience helps meet growing visitor demand while aligning with Topsail Island’s commitment to preserving its welcoming, community-centered character.
