Publix to Open New Surf City Store as Regional Expansion Continues
Publix Super Markets has announced the grand opening date for its newest North Carolina location, confirming that the Surf City store will officially open its doors on Saturday, May 26. The milestone will be marked with a 7 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony, where local officials and community leaders are expected to be in attendance.
Located at 2765 NC Highway 210 East in the Arboretum at Surf City shopping center, the new 48,000-square-foot grocery store will bring one of the nation’s most recognized supermarket chains to the Topsail Island area for the first time. The store will offer a full range of Publix services, including fresh produce, deli and bakery departments, prepared meals, seafood, pharmacy services, and specialty sections popular in other Publix locations throughout the Southeast.
Part of a Larger Expansion Strategy in Coastal North Carolina
The Surf City location marks the latest phase of Publix’s steady growth along the North Carolina coast. In recent years, the company has opened new stores in Wilmington’s Pine Valley and Ogden neighborhoods, as well as in Ocean Isle Beach in Brunswick County. Plans for an additional store in Oak Island remain active, further signaling Publix’s long-term commitment to serving coastal communities.
This regional expansion reflects Publix’s broader strategy to increase its footprint across eastern North Carolina and respond to growing populations in beach communities and surrounding mainland towns.
A Legacy of Growth Since 1930
Founded in 1930, Publix has grown from a single store in Florida to one of the largest and most respected supermarket chains in the United States. The company now operates nearly 1,200 locations across the South, including stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Publix is consistently recognized for its customer service, employee-owned structure, and strong emphasis on fresh, high-quality food offerings. The new Surf City store is expected to draw shoppers from Topsail Island, Holly Ridge, Hampstead, Sneads Ferry, and other surrounding communities who have long awaited a major full-service grocery option closer to home.
A Significant Addition to the Surf City Retail Landscape
The opening of Publix in Surf City marks a major addition to the local retail and shopping environment. Located only minutes from Topsail Island's bridge, the store is expected to serve both year-round residents and seasonal visitors seeking convenient access to groceries and essential services.
With its established reputation, wide selection, and customer-focused experience, the new Surf City Publix is positioned to become a central shopping destination for the greater Topsail region.
